Built in 1930 on the orders of Queen Marie to ease her passage — as she suffered from arthritis — between the castle and the Royal Park below, the tunnel was accessed through the ancient well in the inner courtyard, where an electric lift was installed descending 30 metres underground, leading into a 40-metre horizontal gallery carved through the rock. After decades of abandonment during the communist era, the passage was fully restored and reimagined as a one-of-a-kind multimedia experience. Visitors descend through the castle’s ancient well shaft and journey through the tunnel, encountering interactive holograms of Queen Marie, Princess Ileana, and Vlad the Impaler along the way. A fully Romanian project, it stands as a unique multimedia show within the European museum landscape — and one of the most imaginative heritage experiences in the country.
